Kentucky runs its background check on a tight clock — here's exactly where to go for each step, and what to watch for on timing.

Kentucky Real Estate License FAQ

Your FBI criminal background check is only valid for 90 days from the report date. If it expires before KREC processes your application, you'll need to redo it — so most schools recommend scheduling fingerprinting only after you've finished your pre-license course, not before.

Beyond your 96-hour pre-license course, budget $100 for the PSI exam fee, about $51.25 for fingerprinting, and a $10 KREC processing fee for your E&O insurance — plus whatever your E&O policy itself costs.

You need a licensed Kentucky Principal Broker to sponsor your license application itself — not just to activate it afterward. Your Sales Associate license only becomes active once that affiliation is on file.

75% on both the national and Kentucky-specific portions, passed independently. If you fail one, you'll retake only that section — but you'll pay the full $100 fee again either way.

60 days from your pass date. KREC wants your full documentation package — exam score, education certificate, background check, and sponsoring broker info — submitted together within that window.
