Nebraska Real Estate Licensing Resources

Nebraska runs its steps in a different order than most states — you apply to the Commission before you're fingerprinted, not after. Here's exactly where to go for each step.

🏛️
Nebraska Real Estate Commission (NREC)
The regulatory body that sets requirements and issues your salesperson license.
Visit NREC →
📝
NREC Licensing & Forms
Submit your application here first — your fingerprint cards aren't released until this is on file at the Commission office.

🖐️
Fingerprinting via Nebraska State Patrol
Once your application is on file, NREC mails you fingerprint cards to complete through the Nebraska State Patrol. Budget 4–6 weeks for results.

🖥️
PSI Exam Scheduling
Once NREC approves your file, PSI emails you to schedule your exam — you'll have 12 months from your application date to take it.

Nebraska Real Estate License FAQ

It's just Nebraska's process order: NREC won't release your fingerprint cards until your signed application is on file with them. So file your application as soon as your education is done — that's what starts the clock on everything else.

As of January 1, 2026, Nebraska requires 96 hours: three 30-hour courses plus a 6-hour Professional Practice and Standards course. That's up from 66 hours previously, so if you're working from older information, double-check the current requirement.

Beyond your coursework, plan for roughly $175 for the application fee, $150 for the PSI exam fee, and an $80 license issuance fee once you pass — plus Errors & Omissions insurance, which runs up to about $235 a year through NREC's group plan.

Not to apply or test — but after you pass, you'll submit a License Issuance Form signed by both you and your employing broker before NREC will actually issue your license.

75% or higher on both the national and Nebraska-specific portions. Nebraska's exam includes real estate math on about 10% of the national questions, so it's worth brushing up on the calculations.
