eXp Realty is changing the real estate brokerage model and more and more real estate professionals are starting to realize that our offerings package, lead generation systems, stock awards, education, and low fees and commission cap are the perfect combinations for their business.
In addition to all the lead generation tools and great commission splits that eXp Realty offers, the one thing that makes us stand out from every other real estate brokerage in the country is our incredible eXp Realty Revenue Share Program. This is one of the most talked-about parts of the model—but also one of the most misunderstood.
If you’ve tried to google “how does eXp Revenue Share work” before, you’ve probably seen a lot of charts, percentages, and explanations that feel more confusing than helpful.
So let’s break this down in a way that actually makes sense.
No fluff. No overcomplication. Just a simple explanation with real examples so you can understand exactly how it works.
How the eXp Realty Revenue Share Program Works
At a high level, eXp revenue share is simple:
If you help another agent join eXp Realty, and they go on to sell homes, you can earn a small percentage from the brokerage side of their transactions. It has nothing to do with the profitability of the company that month or quarter, your monthly revenue share check from eXp is based on 3.5% of that agent’s gross commissions.
That’s it.
It does not come out of the agent’s commission.
It comes from the broker’s portion of the commission split.
A Simple Example
Let’s say that one of the agents you introduced to eXp agents sells a $500K home and generates $15K in commission.
From that transaction, eXp keeps a portion (aka broker commission split), and a percentage of that is shared back with agents through revenue share.
Since that selling agent is on your first level (Tier 1), you’ll receive about 3.5% of the gross commission ($525). It’s just that simple!
If you want to get into the math, here’s another way to look at this: EXP has a 20% commission split, so in this example, they would keep $3,000 of the $15,000 commission check. EXP takes that $3,000 and shares a portion of it with the agents in the revenue share group. As the first level sponsor you would receive a maximum of 17.5% of the $3,000 – or $525!
The wonderful thing about this revenue sharing program is that you will keep receiving a percentage of everything the agent sells until they reach their annual company commission cap of $16,000… and then it starts over again the next year!
You can earn a maximum of $4,000 for the first year the agent is with the company, and in the following years, a max of $2,800.
Now, this is the fun part. Imagine multiplying that by a few agents:
5 agents → ~ $12,000 to $20,000 per year
10 agents → ~$25,000 to $40,000 per year
This is where most agents start to see the potential.
Before we dive into more examples of your earning potential, we need to walk through one important piece of the revenue sharing puzzle…
Revenue Share Levels (or Tiers) Explained
eXp’s revenue share model includes multiple tiers (or levels).
Here’s the simple version:
- You earn from agents you personally introduce (Tier 1)
- You can also earn from agents they introduce (Tier 2)
- This continues across multiple levels within the organization (Tiers 3 to 7)
There are seven levels or tiers that you can earn from, but as you’ll see in the following chart, you need to have personally introduced a certain number of producing agents in order to “unlock” the maximum revenue share on Tiers 4 through 7.
Unlocking Your Revenue Share Tiers
The first three tiers are automatically “unlocked”, which simply means that you do not have to have personally attracted a certain number of agents to get paid the “eXponential Share” on your first three levels or tiers.
Once your revenue share group starts growing and your Tier 2 and 3 agents are attracting other agents, you will need to have personally introduced a certain number in order to earn the “eXponenial” revenue share. A few examples:
- You have to have personally introduced 5+ agents to qualify for the full revenue share amount (1.5%) in your 4th line.
- You will need to bring at least 30+ agents to the company in order to get the full revenue share amount (5.0%) for the agent sales in your 7th line.
The good news: If you have real estate agents the lower tiers, but haven’t personally attracted enough agents to qualify for the eXponential Share, you still receive a small percentage of what they sell. That is listed in the eXpansion Share column above.
Earning Potential with Revenue Share
We know you want to see this program in action, so we are going to share a few examples with you…
EXAMPLE #1 | Conservative Growth
As you can imagine, your revenue share can build over time, as you introduce new agents to the company and your agents (and their agents) attract more people.
Let’s say that you have three friends and/or agents from your old brokerage join you at eXp in the first year. Here’s what the numbers look like…
Then the following year, you still have your three friends with you at eXp and you attract three more. Now you have six agents in your Tier 1 and another six agents in Tier 2.
EXAMPLE #2 | Overachiever or Influencer-Style Growth
If you are a team leader, broker-owner or just a plain old-fashioned Overachiever, this is the inspiration you’ve been looking for. We like to call this the “10 WHO BRING 10″ example.
Let’s say you introduce 10 really excited, energetic real estate agents to eXp Realty
Then they each went out and brought 10 agents to the company
You would have 10 agents in your 1st line and 100 agents in your 2nd line
If they are all cappers, you could potentially make $348,000 per year in residual income.
This doesn’t even include having any agents on your other five levels in your revenue share downline! We also didn’t add in the first-year bonus for the agents on Tier 1, so this number could exceed $350,000.
A Quick Reality Check
These examples show maximum earning potential, but we want full transparency here! There are a few important things to keep in mind:
- Some agents may sell fewer homes
- You may not always receive the maximum payout
- Not every agent will reach their annual commission cap ($80K GCI)
- Growth may happen faster—or slower—depending on your network

How This Typically Grows
For most agents, this doesn’t happen overnight. It usually looks like:
- Attracting 1 to 3 agents per year to eXp – and that doesn’t mean you’re out “recruiting” agents. Quite often agents from your old brokerage or co-op agents are the ones to reach out to you to see how you like eXp because they are considering a change
- Helping agents get acclimated at eXp so they can take full advantage of all the tools and technology that’s offered
- Staying connected and supportive
- Letting things grow naturally over time
And in the years to come, that can turn into a meaningful second income stream alongside your real estate business.
Other Things You May Not Know About Revenue Sharing at eXp
There are two game-changing nuances that make this program different from a “pyramid” or a standard recruiting scheme:
Your Revenue Share is Willable Asset (The Security Blanket)
If you are at a traditional brokerage and you pass away tomorrow, your family gets $0 of your future potential. At eXp, your Revenue Share is a willable asset.
As long as a family member gets their license within 12 months, that monthly residual check continues to provide for your spouse and children for the rest of their lives.
An Exit Strategy (The 35-Year Income Plan)
Imagine working hard for 10 years. At a more traditional brokerage, your income stops the day you stop selling. At eXp, if you maintain an active license but stop selling at age 55 (for example), you can continue to collect your revenue share for the rest of your life.
You turn 10 years of work into 35+ years of income.
Common Questions About eXp Revenue Share
Does my revenue share this come out of the agent’s commission?
No. The agent still keeps their split. Revenue share comes from the brokerage side.
Do I have to recruit agents?
No. But if someone joins because of you, that’s where revenue share applies.
Is the revenue share payout based on company profits?
No. It’s based on gross commission from transactions—not monthly or quarterly profits.
Do I need a large team to make this work?
No. Many agents build this gradually with just a few strong relationships.
What is an FLQA?
This is short for “Front Line Qualifying Agent”. You need to have a certain number of FLQAs on Tier 1 in order to unlock the maximum revenue share on Levels 4 through 7. For an agent to become an FLQA they just need to generate $5,000 in gross commission every 6 months.
How to do Co-Sponsors earn revenue share?
Agents joining eXp can now choose a primary “Sponsor” as well as a “Co-Sponsor”. Here’s how the revenue share breaks down for both:
- Co-Sponsor Benefit: Receive the Level 1 Revenue Share (the 3.5% target) as well as 50% of the Fast Start Bonus (up to $2,000 of the $4,000 total).
- The Primary Sponsor Benefit: They keep the long-term “network” value (Levels 2–7), the stock awards, and the FLQA credit.
- The Agent Benefit: They get two leaders pouring into them instead of one.
Can I still earn revenue share if I haven’t sold anything recently?
Definitely! You aren’t required to be a producing agent, just actively licensed with eXp.
Can I recruit agents in other states or countries?
Absolutely! eXp is currently in 29 countries (as of early 2026), so if you have friends, family or other connections who are interested in joining, they can name you as their eXp Sponsor.
What is eXp Revenue Share 2.0?
In 2025, eXp made some significant enhancements to the program so it’s often referred to as “2.0”. All of our charts in this article reflect the changes.
Building Better Agents Together
The beauty of this model is the incentive alignment. At a traditional office, the top producer in the cubicle next to you is your competitor. At eXp, if that agent is in your revenue share group, you are financially incentivized to give them your best scripts, your best lead-gen tools, and your time.
When you help another agent go from 6 deals a year to 20, everyone wins. That is the heart of why we are building better agents every single day.
